The 11th annual Sacramento’s Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom Weekend will be kicking off on Friday, June 15!
Since the summer of 2011, Sacramento has held a Juneteenth festival while celebrating and educating its community about The Emancipation Proclamation, which was signed in 1863.
To kick off the festival, Friday’s festivities will consist of a “Gospel Under the Stars” concert which will include performances by local gospel artists. Saturday, June 16 the parade will be featuring marching bands, fraternities and sororities, along with car and motorcycle clubs.
There is also set to be a fishing derby which is going to be sponsored by the City of Sacramento’s “Fishing in the City” Program. The pond will be stocked with live catfish and children will be given bait and a pole, where they will then be taught how to fish.
There will also be vendors at the festival, ranging from arts and crafts to food prepared by local Sacramento restaurants.
This event is free for all ages.
