Last night I was a bit confused as to why I was seeing so many people on Tumblr post Jhené Aiko
‘s Comfort Inn Ending as if it was a new song. Not knowing that she had released a part two, I kept right on scrolling. Then, when I got on Tumblr today I searched the Comfort Inn Ending tag and I saw that someone had posted the lyrics. Only the lyrics weren’t the lyrics that are sung in part one, so eventually I realize that she released a part two. I click on the Soundcloud link and bask in the soothing, angelic voice that greets me.
Known for occasionally providing listeners with tunes that are retrospective of her personal life, the continuation is a bit deeper than what Aiko speaks on in the first half. The songbird goes into more detail about ending a relationship with a guy she had been seeing to pursue a relationship with the jerk that took her out and left her in the deep end.
“But if we’re nothing, we’re nothing, we’re nothing, we’re nothing, we’re nothing, we’re nothing… why would you call this love when you knew that it wasn’t? Why would you call it love when you knew that it wasn’t? If this is not love, then please tell me what was it? If this was not love, then please tell me what was it?”
Believe me, Jhené, we’ve all been there before. Getting emotionally invested in someone only to find out that the feelings aren’t mutual.
Dah, well.. I’ve learned that life goes on.
