21-year-old New Orleans native R&B artist August Alsina released his debut album Testimony yesterday under Def Jam Recordings and Radio Killa Records. Many of you may have heard a couple of his singles such as “I Luv This Shit,” “Make It Home” or “Numb,” but for those of you unfamiliar with Alsina, he first began singing just a few years ago, 2007 to be exact.
His first uploaded YouTube video was a cover of Lyfe Jennings‘ Lyfe 268-192 2004 single “Hypothetically;” however, it wasn’t until his older brother Melvin was killed in 2010, that Alsina seriously began pursuing a music career in an attempt to escape the street life that he had been subjected to.
Years later, and it’s safe to believe that Alsina’s making his brother proud as he is chasing his dreams, striving to make a name for himself in the ever-evolving music industry, touring the world, all the while never forgetting his roots and paying homage to his brother, whose birthday served as the release date for the album.
The 15-track album includes production from DJ Mustard, Drumma Boy, Jasper Cameron, etc., as well as features from Pusha T, Jeezy, Fabolous and more!
